The Inverse of a Schema Mapping
نویسنده
چکیده
The inversion of schema mappings has been identified as one of the fundamental operators for the development of a general framework for data exchange, data integration, and more generally, for metadata management. Given a mappingM from a schema S to a schema T, an inverse ofM is a new mapping that describes the reverse relationship from T to S, and that is semantically consistent with the relationship previously established byM. In practical scenarios, the inversion of a schema mapping can have several applications. For example, in a data exchange context, if a mappingM is used to exchange data from a source to a target schema, an inverse ofM can be used to exchange the data back to the source, thus reversing the application ofM. The formalization of a clear semantics for the inverse operator has proved to be a very difficult task. In fact, during the last years, several alternative notions of inversion for schema mappings have been proposed in the literature. This chapter provides a survey on the different formalizations for the inverse operator and the main theoretical and practical results obtained so far. In particular, we present and compare the main proposals for inverting schema mappings that have been considered in the literature. For each one of them we present their formal semantics and characterizations of their existence. We also present algorithms to compute inverses and study the language needed to express such inverses. 1998 ACM Subject Classification H.2.5 [Heterogeneous Databases]: Data translation

A Reverse Data Exchange: Coping with Nulls
An inverse of a schema mapping M is intended to “undo” what M does, thus providing a way to perform “reverse” data exchange. In recent years, three different formalizations of this concept have been introduced and studied, namely, the notions of an inverse of a schema mapping, a quasi-inverse of a schema mapping, and a maximum recovery of a schema mapping. The study of these notions has been ca...

A schema mapping is a specification that describes how data from a source schema is to be mapped to a target schema. Schema mappings have proved to be essential for data-interoperability tasks such as data exchange and data integration. The research on this area has mainly focused on performing these tasks. However, as Bernstein pointed out [7], many information-system problems involve not only...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Moving Finite Element-Based Inverse Heat Conduction Method for Determination of Moving Surface Temperature
A moving finite element-based inverse method for determining the temperature on a moving surface is developed. The moving mesh is generated employing the transfinite mapping technique. The proposed algorithms are used in the estimation of surface temperature on a moving boundary with high velocity in the burning process of a homogenous low thermal diffusivity solid fuel. The measurements obtain...

n this paper , we propose a generalized iterative method forfinding a common element of the set of fixed points of a singlenonexpannsive mapping and the set of solutions of two variationalinequalities with inverse strongly monotone mappings and strictlypseudo-contractive of Browder-Petryshyn type mapping. Our resultsimprove and extend the results announced by many others.

The inversion of schema mappings has been identified as one of the fundamental operators for the development of a general framework for metadata management. In fact, during the last years three alternative notions of inversion for schema mappings have been proposed (Fagin-inverse [10], quasi-inverse [14] and maximum recovery [2]). However, the procedures that have been developed for computing t...
